Naruto Merchandise Complaint

Naruto Poster 01So a few months ago, I went to the coffeeshop to buy myself an Irish Creme Latte.  As I was waiting, I thumbed through their magazine rack and came across a Shonen Jump poster magazine.  And I must say … I was extremely disappointed.

I’ve included one of the posters that I was most displeased with and have highlighted the trouble areas …

  • Starting from the bottom left … Sakura’s arm looks terrible.  It looks like her arm is broken and skewed around unnaturally
  • The next would be Naruto’s shoulder and arm — the foreshortening is off and the distance between his neck and his shoulder is much longer than what it should be.  They should have moved the whole hand and arm over a few centimeters
  • As for Kakashi … they made his hands tiny and his shoulders are uneven and his stance unnatural

I love the background, but the figure art  — I’m surprised this was ever approved for production.  I highly doubt Kishimoto drew this up … it’s far too sloppy for his style.  Regardless, the vast majority of the magazine’s posters were like this.  Needless to say, I didn’t purchase it.

And I know what you’re saying, “I’d like to see you do better.”  Well, I plan to … :)

Once I get my current projects done I would like to try to make a few promotional posters for Naruto.  I’m already working on one for Konoha’s Legacy and hope to get it done after my pin-ups are finished.  I’ll try to keep everyone posted on the progress and expect to see the WIPs posted here. :D

yea a lot of that stuff just isn’t up to par, I have a wall scroll of team 7 in their portrate pose, kakshi’s hands arent even gloved and his elbows look cockeyed.

I found that same magazine at Border’s, and wound up buying it because it was cheap and I had a gift card. Whoever draws the art really needs practice. I keep looking at a poster of the Konoha ninja and thinking “I can draw them better!” I’m not that good of an artist, but really, the poster artists could try harder. I now have WAY too many posters on my walls, but if you look at them from a distance, they’re kinda cool…
